Overview - Crystal Serenity visits Sydney, Australia, in February 2012, and there are still bookings available for the onward cruise to SE Asia, China and Japan (plus onboard spending credits!). This vessel spends most of the year in the Mediterranean, sailing between the UK and Spain to the great ports of the Azure Coast, Italy and Greece, to Turkey and the Black Sea. In December 2011 Serenity crosses the Atlantic for Miami and the Caribbean. Consider the cruise from New York to the UK via Iceland and Norway, in May 2012. This vessel receives a Berlitz rating of five stars because of its fine facilities, service and crew. Crystal ships are numbered 1 and 2 in the world's "Top Mid-size Ships".

Accommodation - This is a luxury vessel, one of the finest in the world. All cabins have an outside view and 85% have a private balcony. Those without a balcony have a picture window viewing the ocean across the 3600 promenade deck. Cabin areas are larger than industry average (from 21 to 37.5 m2), and come with fresh flowers, wireless Internet access, TV, DVD player, fridge and mini-bar, fine linen, bathrobes, slippers, luxury bath amenities, bathtub with integral shower, two basins, twice-daily housekeeping and nightly turndown service. Larger cabins have additional furnishings. In-room dining at any time.

Penthouse Suites (at 50 m2) come with a separate bedroom, walk-in closet and en-suite marble bathroom and whirlpool baths, additional shower enclosure, and bidet. The lounge has a large couch, coffee table and armchairs, and separate dining area for four. Crystal Penthouses (at 125 m2) have in addition a private workout studio, Bang & Olufsen sound system, three flat-screen TVs, king-size bed and marble-clad bathroom with whirlpool bath, and topped with ocean views. Penthouse cabins and suites have butler service, and expect afternoon tea trolley service and evening hors d'ouvres. Cabins with wheelchair-access are available in all categories.

Food & Dining - The Crystal Dining Room is elegant and spacious, with two seatings and fixed-table assignments. The menus are varied and the food is of the highest quality. Special (off-menu) orders can be made. Dining is open seated for breakfast and lunch. Reservations are required for the two alternative restaurants. Prego is for Italian food and wines, and Silk Road has Asia-California "fusion" food. Service at all dining venues is memorable.

The Bistro is a casual spot for coffees and pastries served in the style of a European street cafe. The sushi bar offers items selected by Japanese super-chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Tastes is a casual restaurant serving an interesting menu and set around the pool. The Trident Grill makes made-to-order burgers and sandwiches. Other casual buffets and eateries can be found around the ship, including an ice cream/frozen yoghurt counter.

Entertainment & Activities - The Galaxy Lounge is the main showroom presents elegant shows, comedy revues and classical recitals. The ship provides gentlemen hosts for the many single ladies who travel. Dancing is backed by live ensembles, and the many bars and lounges provide varied evening camaraderie: cocktails in the Palm Court, karaoke in the Pulse Disco, piano music in the Avenue Saloon and Crystal Cove. For late-nighters not at the disco, look for them at the casino.

Creative Learning Institute programs range from foreign languages to computer skills. Experts speak on topics you can check on Crystal's Web site. The ship has two pools (one covered), and popular exercise opportunities - paddle tennis, shuffleboard, putting green, golf driving nets, Ping-Pong, and of course state-of-the-art gym (with flat-screen TVs to occupy your gaze). The salon has a full range of services, and a spa-at-sea repeatedly voted the World's Best. There are two playrooms for youngsters aged from 3 to 17.
