Virgin Blue's international airline PacificBlue^ is launching two new routes over the next two days. The inaugural Auckland to Tonga flight takes off at 7am on Monday 31 October and the first Auckland to Rarotonga flight takes off at 6.45pm on Tuesday 1 November.
Auckland to Tonga is a new destination for PacificBlue and the airline will initially offer three direct flights a week as well as two direct weekly flights between Tonga and Sydney. PacificBlue is the first low cost carrier to service the Tongan community and its introduction will stimulate tourism by providing travellers with a cost effective option.
PacificBlue CEO, Tony Marks said, "We are really looking forward to expanding our network to include Tonga. On Monday, PacificBlue will be the first airline to make Tonga an affordable destination. While we are the first low cost carrier to this market, the effect PacificBlue have had on prices is already evident, with our competition rushing to copy our lead. That's the kind of impact PacificBlue has on a market."
To complement the new destination, PacificBlue is also flying their first Auckland to Rarotonga service beginning on Tuesday 01 November. The Auckland to Rarotonga service will depart Auckland twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
PacificBlue CEO, Tony Marks said, "We have had great feedback from the special sale fares we put into the market on both the new Island routes, and this has been reflected in the bookings. We hope this enthusiasm will continue and know that this can only help generate further tourism opportunities for the region.
"Our commitment to the South Pacific region is clear with the introduction of PacificBlue flights from Auckland to Rarotonga and Tonga. We are confident our exceptional levels of service and everyday low fares will prove attractive to Pacific Islanders and New Zealanders alike."
