30 April 2010 - TravelMole Asia-Pacific Web Awards winners revealed
GlobeNet's world cruise website Cleancruising.com.au beat the odds by winning 2 categories today - Travel Innovator of the year AND Most exciting new technology in travel at the awards ceremony in Singapore before an audience of more than 1,000 travel technology leaders who are attending the EyeforTravel Travel Distribution Asia conference.

Chairman of the judging panel Ric Shreves, founder and partner of Water & Stone, said the quality of this year’s nominated companies was extremely high and both winners and those short-listed for the awards could be proud of their compelling websites.

Shreves was joined on the judging panel by Liz Craig, principal - Oneglobe Network; Joe Buhler - Buhlerworks - principal and PhocusWright - Social Web Marketing Consultant and Senior Destination Marketing Analyst for PhoCusWright; Ron Ramanan - founder & managing director GoQuo; Reece Gladstone - consultant TravelZoo; Aaron Koh - consultant and Meraj K Huda - founder/principal of Forumline.com

Commenting on the awards, Joe Buhler said, “Reviewing the various candidates reveals some creative and innovative approaches to website development and web based marketing in the region."

Meraj Huda said, "The winners in each category have indicated that travel industry-related websites are utilising more and more of the 'best practice' features. There were several finalists and winners that had a balance of rich content, technical competency, as well as functional focus.

"Clean Cruising was a clear winner in its nominated categories for its exemplary use of new technology to make interactive user experience an integral part of the overall e-marketing process."

GM Dan Russell received the awards from TravelMole's Paul Chern, Sales Director for South East Asia.

He said “We embraced virtual tourism 4 years ago by first mapping the world’s cruise ports and paths and then accurately modelling the ships so this rewards our efforts to date. It’s a world-first, and travellers love the rich experience now available on their PC’s, home plasma screens or their Iphones.  The stunning detail of both ships and ports blurs the line between our virtual and real worlds.”

Russell predicted, “These are early days for ‘virtual tourism’ but it’s certainly the way of the future. The travel market is looking for more interactive applications, and soon you will be able to design your entire holiday - by air, land & sea - to preview at your leisure in a video at YouTube or your mobile phone.”

As the only cruise site among all categories, these major awards consolidate Clean Cruising's lead position in the online cruise landscape. Their unique virtual cruise videos can be experienced at both this website and YouTube.

15 December 2009 - Luxury Travel Magazine 2009 Gold List Winners
The winners of Luxury Travel Magazine's Gold List 2009, Australia's most prestigious travel awards, were announced today. Now in its fifth year, the Gold List 2009 survey was even wider reaching in scope than in previous years - making this one of the most comprehensive luxury travel surveys ever conducted by an Australian travel magazine. The results make for fascinating reading - view complete list

For the 4th year running GlobeNet Travel was named as one of the top 5 Australian "Best Luxury Travel Professionals". GlobeNet Travel was again voted #2 in Australia and this time we congratulate Perth’s Virtuoso member Bicton Travel for taking out the top spot for the year.

Luxury Travel is one of Australia’s most prestigious travel and lifestyle magazines, available worldwide by subscription or from newsagents Australia-wide. The 2008 Gold List is the most comprehensive luxury travel survey ever undertaken by an Australian magazine, voted for by thousands of discerning subscribers and readers.

GlobeNet Travel GM Dan Russell says "It's very pleasing to get support from the public like this but while we keep coming second it reminds us there is always room for improvement. We are up against the big multi-store agencies in this list but our main advantage is having current first-hand knowledge of the destinations. At any time up to a quarter of our consultants will be away doing field reports on our hand-picked cruise ships, resorts, spas, hotels etc.. Their reports are then shared with colleagues and added to our central knowledgebase."

Dan continued "While our online bookings for simple itineraries will continue to grow, there's only so much the average traveller can do themselves with a booking engine without risking an unsatisfactory result and a disappointing holiday. That's where a good website offering specialised personal advice and high level 24x7 service from a qualified travel consultant can never be replaced, particularly if it costs you no more."

18 November 2009 - GlobeNet Travel wins Club Med Top Agency for 2009
Club Med Australia today released their list of top agents in the Asia-Pacific region which encompasses Australasia and for the third consecutive year, GlobeNet Travel has been named the Highest Selling Agency.

When asked why Club Med is so popular with their luxury travel clients GlobeNet's Director of Sales, Jean Summers, says "Club Med offers more than just superb family holidays and these days you have a choice of exclusive 5 star resorts and spa retreats from the tropics to the alps. We did a cost analysis of one of their 'all-inclusive holidays' and found that when compared with nearby equivalnet resorts, Club Med showed a massive saving of 28.5% for a family of 4 when all costs were added up! And when our consultants opt to take their own families there it speaks for itself."

January 2007 - Carbon-neutral Cruising has arrived!
GlobeNet launches CleanCruising.com.au following 18 months of R&D, integrating advanced search technology and providing a No-Cost carbon-neutral offset program for all bookings in a world-first initiative. Already a major cruise retailer, GlobeNet decided this rapidly growing travel sector needed a specialist division and started from scratch with a survey of clients to find out what THEY wanted for their future cruises.

Besides competitive pricing and professional service, more Australians were looking for sustainable travel solutions. They also indicated their annoyance at postage stamp size route maps and poor quality destination information from cumbersome cruise websites.

In response, CleanCruising partnered with Carbon Neutral, a leading non-profit organisation that has planted over 30 million native trees in Australia over the past 27 years to provide carbon-offsets without raising prices. They also developed advanced Google Earth interfaces to allow intending travellers to research & preview their trip as never before, in US Newsweek's words..."Clean Cruising has come up with an innovation sure to sweep the U.S. cruise industry soon: virtual cruise itineraries".

Based on traveller's votes, this is the type of award we really treasure as it is their way of saying thanks."

1 Nov 2005 - GlobeNet Travel wins Deloitte Technology Awards - • Fast 50 Award Australia • Fast 500 Award Asia Pacific
Brisbane based company, GlobeNet Travel, has come 36th in the 2005 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 awards, achieving 123 percent revenue growth over the last three years.

The Deloitte Technology Fast 50 ranks the 50 fastest growing Australian technology companies, public or private, based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2003 to 2005) and includes all related industry sectors: Communications, Software, Semiconductors, Components and Electronics, Life Sciences, Internet and Computer Peripherals.

GlobeNet Travel is a leading online leisure travel retailer that specialises in Australian destinations with several thousand local and overseas customers. The company operates a number of websites that cater to different markets, each of which have been built with in-house resources.

GlobeNet Travel provides information rich content covering Queensland's luxury resorts, Club Med properties and more recently, cruise vessels.
Luxury Downunder allows consumers to discover 200 of Australia's finest hotels and resorts which they can either book online or via a consultant.
Travel Downunder was developed to become the first private distributor for the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, a 4 year initiative of the state tourism authorities to collate and disseminate consistent information for Australia's 15,000 tourism operators.
Luxedo.com features over 2,000 of the world's most luxurious properties, all of which can be booked online without requiring payment until check-out.

GlobeNet Travel's General Manager, Dan Russell said, "We took the early view that travel retailing would move down two distinct paths, the first that simple point-to-point travel components would increasingly be booked online by the consumer. A variety of booking engine technologies have been deployed to meet this demand and we are developing our own in conjunction with Google Earth & Maps technology.

Secondly we recognised the inability for booking engines to allow complex, multi-stage itineraries to be easily transacted.

These trips are typically of a higher dollar, higher yielding nature. To address this we provide very detailed online content that assists consumers in their research, backed up by a team of highly experienced travel consultants who provide a personalised trip planning service."

GlobeNet Travel continually reviews the technology landscape and intends rolling out a range of innovations across its sites in the near future to ensure the company's continued growth.
16 Aug 2005 - Google Earth video - First Internet application in Australia
GlobeNet Travel websites launch Google Earth to enable satellite-sourced viewing in 3 separate travel applications:

• Zoom & pan locations & surroundings of mainland hotels & resorts world-wide.
• Satellite view videos of transit path to remote resorts & islands in Australia.
• Satellite view videos of cruise routes, port to port world-wide.

Initial feedback has been very encouraging as travellers have their first look at virtual tours and like what they see despite their current large file sizes.

The GlobeNet team of developers expect higher bandwidth access by viewers plus improved video compression techniques will see them become standard practice for trip planning by the public in the very near future.

1 July 2005 - Top Ten Travel site for Australia
Hitwise has announced "GlobeNet Travel qualified for a Top 10 Award for the year ended June 2005. During this period, www.globenettravel.com.au ranked No. 8 by visits in the Travel Agency category against all other Australian websites".

GlobeNet Travel CEO, Dan Russell said "This is an extremely satisfying result given the other top 10 sites largely consist of big operators with multi-million dollar marketing budgets. We provide highest level service from a top team of travel experts combined with cutting-edge website technology and I guess that's why our clients keep coming back!"
1 January 2005 - Luxury Downunder exhibits at International Luxury Travel Market, Cannes France
