Based in Brisbane, Pacific Dawn is a luxury Cruise ship in the superliner class and among the largest based in Australian waters, boasting spacious decks and an abundance of affordable balcony cabins. Apart from the occasional 3-night ‘cruise to nowhere’, Pacific Dawn offers 7- to 14-night cruises to: New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji in the Pacific; the Great Barrier Reef (Whitsunday Islands, Cairns and Port Douglas); Tasmania (Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney); and a 7-port circumnavigation of New Zealand.

Built in 1991 and extensively refurbished late 2007, the 70,310 GT Pacific Dawn carries 2,020 passengers. The ship is distinctive all-white with a curved forwards superstructure inspired by the dolphin. Her spacious domed entertainment centre features great live entertainment, comedy nights and jazz events, or enjoy a world-class performance in the two-story Show Lounge. Relax for drinks and conversation in the Plaza Atrium, La Patisserie or The Bengal Bar. At night The Dome becomes the Night Club, and the Disco after mid-night. In addition to the 9 bars and lounges and 5 restaurants is the shopping arcade offering fine jewellery, crystal, perfumes and fashion apparel. The crew, service, food and entertainment receive strong reviews from guests.

Accommodation - All cabins are spacious (most are 17.6 sq.m., and a few triple cabins at 13.5 sq.m.), with twin beds mostly convertible to queen size. Some cabins have two additional upper berths. All come with flat-screen TV, AC, fridge, desk and telephone, walk-in closets and ample storage space, private ensuite with complimentary toiletries, and daily service (extra charge for 24 hour room serviced). Décor is neat and attractive. The vessel has 184 affordable balcony cabins with good ocean views. All Ocean View cabins feature large picture windows.

About three-quarters of the cabins are outside, having a large window (or porthole in the case of a few). Eight cabins are wheelchair accessible. Cots are available for children under three years. Of the 668 cabins, on the upper decks 28 are Outside with Balcony (21.2 sq.m.) and 36 Mini-Suites (30.5 sq.m.) come with balconies, upgraded bathrooms and a range of extras, and which accommodate up to four. All Suites and Mini-Suites have a balcony, sitting room areas and bathtubs.

Food & Dining - Dining-wise, there are five eateries onboard Pacific Jewel. The line has recruited its first ever celebrity chef, Luke Mangan, who has added his touches to the menu in the Salt Grill restaurant, a steak and seafood venue. The décor is bright and extremely colourful and bright. Dress up for the formal dinner/s. The crew have a name for friendliness and the food selection is plentiful and varied.

Dining is where and when you like: “Your Choice Dining”. Four restaurants and a café on the Lido Deck serve casual meals and grills, and at night less formal dining with pasta, steaks, salads and desserts – though you might dress up for the Salt Grill. Themed bars and lounges are aplenty. In total there are nine bars and lounges.

Entertainment & Activities - The International Showlounge with its variety theatre spans two decks. On board there is plenty of live music at the various bars and lounges: solo pianists to large bands, of all genres. View the stunning laser light and sound show in the atrium. Relax for drinks and conversation in the Plaza Atrium, La Patisserie or The Bengal Bar. At night The Dome becomes the Night Club, and the Disco after mid-night.

In the words of one past guest: “Entertainment on Pacific Dawn was great. There were very few times when I wasn't doing anything; in fact I often had to miss activities as there is simply not enough time in each day. Shows in the theatre during the day were the highlight of entertainment, along with the late night comedy shows.” Leisure spaces include jogging track, whirlpool spas, library, medical centre, gym and health spa.
