Overview - Aurora is based in Southampton, with cruises ranging from 2 to 36 nights (Caribbean, and Panama Canal!), venturing in all directions from Britain to the Caribbean, the Baltic, the Mediterranean, sub-Arctic and Arctic Norway, the New England coast of North America, and the Canary Islands. There is a good amount of outdoor decking and sunbathing space. Interior public rooms allow for privacy, traffic flows easily, and layout includes fine artworks, impressive four-story atrium, ample library, children's facilities, and a dozen lounges and bars. A large magrodome covers the swimming pool. There is a wide variety of British entertainment, and children of all ages are well-supervised. Note that many extras attract additional payment, and you'll confront smoking areas, sales fliers and announcements. Currency is the British pound.

Accommodation - As one expects in elegant four-star vessel, staterooms are spacious, most comfortable, with excellent bedding and furnishings. The wide range of cabin configurations allows for family accommodation with extra beds. Staterooms have all the expected amenities, including satellite TV channels, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, writing desk, and daily steward service. On arrival receive a luxurious pamper pack of toiletries. Two lower beds can convert to a king-size bed. There are 22 wheelchair-accessible cabins, eight with a private balcony.

Balcony staterooms have a bathroom with bath and shower, lounge area with sofa and table, and full height glass doors to the balcony. Mini-suites add a DVD, clothes pressing facilities, bathrobe and slippers, and magazines and newspapers on arrival - along with fruit, flowers, Champagne, chocolates - and daily canapés. Move up to the spacious full suites for a bathroom with whirlpool, guest bathroom, walk-in dressing area, reclining deck chairs, coffee machine, and butler service. Each of two Penthouse Suites has two levels linked with a spiral staircase, separate lounge and dining areas, and choice of baby grand piano or Hi-Fi system. These are so spacious.

Food & Dining - The main dining rooms are Medina, with a Moorish theme, and Alexandria, with an Egyptian theme. Meals are served with fine silverware and china and the service is excellent. The food is attractively presented and the desserts stand out. There is a two-sitting fixed dining system in the restaurants, and dress codes are enforced in the dining rooms and in the main bars in the evenings. Alternatively, dine at the 24-hour French bistro-style Café Bordeaux (with a cover charge at dinner). Casual buffet fare is found at the Orangery, and fast-food items at the pool's Sidewalk Café.

There are many themed lounges and bars throughout the ship. For drinks before the theatre call at Andersons. For Champagne the place to relax is Charlies, to soft piano accompaniment. Sample chocolates and specialty coffees at Raffles Bar.

Entertainment & Activities - Carmens is the entertainment centre for sophisticated cabaret and comedy. The Curzon Theatre presents production shows on its giant stage, and every performance has the feel of a West End theatre. The Playhouse is used for lectures, excellent port enhancement talks, classical recitals, and evening block-buster cinema. Masquerade is the top-of-the-range nightclub. Watch sporting events on TVs and amidst sporting memorabilia at Champions. For solitude retire to the library, writing room or card tables. Ballroom fans can select from four large wooden dance floors. Teachers are on hand for dance, as also are computer instructors in the Cyber study.

The Oasis Spa and Salon offer a full range of services including sauna and steam rooms, and are adjacent to a modern high-tech and well-supervised gymnasium. The sports court beneath the funnel hosts a range of ball games for individual or tournament play. The golf simulator challenges you to a round on some of the world's greatest golf courses. There are three outdoor pools and five whirlpools. Aurora is a family-oriented ship. Decibels is the entertainment hub for teens, with arcade games, non-alcoholic bar and disco. Intergalactica and Quarterdeck for the pre-teens has it all - computers, Playstations, jukeboxes, Internet stations, and organised games. Toybox is for the little ones. If you want a little quiet time after a full day, the Night Nursery babysitting facility will assist. This vessel (and P&O Line) has been recommended as "Best for ex-UK Cruises".
